how does Shakespeare use metaphor to show Romeo’s inner thoughts in act 1 scene 4 of Romeo and Juliet?
Shakespeare uses a range of metaphors in Romeo and Juliet to explain the inner workings of the characters minds.
at the start of act 1 scene, 1 Romeo is talking about a dream he had that showed him that something bad would happen tonight that would lead to his “untimely” death.
later on, in this scene, he says “he that hath the steerage of my course Direct my sail!” this metaphor used describe Romeo as a boat by using words such as “steerage, course and sail”. he also suggests though the use of a capital H in He that god is the captain of his ship from that line I understood that Romeo though that god can take him the right way.
